The Door Within
When I came into the open,
I closed the door behind —
Not letting people near my den,
A barbed fence narrowing my blend.
Comfortable in negligence and ignorance,
Content and joyous in dull permanence,
Until life compelled me to break my fence,
To step out and mingle with the dense.
A fear to open that long-closed door,
Shaking the walls of my false secure shore,
Thrown into the wild to dance with the roar—
I long to return to my home once more,
To complete the journey through this maze I explore.
